Happiness is such a fickle business, is it not? Good things happen in our businesses and we are momentarily happy until the next crisis, right? We are happy one day for no particular reason and completely frustrated the next, often by what are usually trivial things. However, rather than trying to figure out all the details by deconstructing the human psyche we can simply choose to…

Be Happy Now!

I know, you might be saying: “Sure, Matt. What snakeoil you selling here?!” But what if I am telling you the truth? What if I am telling the truth and you can be happy in your business, your relationships, with yourself, your life, all of it? Well, that’s exactly what I am going to do. Below are my 5 steps to Happiness:

1. Focus

To get Happy you have to focus on Happy. That means you have to let go of usual patterns calling you to other states of mind, and pull yourself back to thinking Happy thoughts, positive thoughts, good feeling thoughts, well wishes for yourself and others.

 2. Awareness

If we are not aware of ourselves, our minds, our thoughts, our feelings, it will be very easy to slip down the slope of old patterns, feeling sad, and attracting in more things to be unhappy about. Instead of getting upset, see if you can get curious, and explore what is happening when you don’t like what you are seeing, feeling, thinking and so on.

3. Forgiveness

A consistent Forgiveness practice is like a true Super Power. Forgiving ourselves, our parents, our friends, loves, coworkers, clients, employees, vendors, freelancers,  (yes, everyone!) can open you up to more happiness than you have ever known. It creates huge spaces to be filled with goodness, once our hearts are open and we are in a loving, compassionate state.

4. Smile

Smiling is a true blessing. Studies have been done that show even when you are not happy, smiling can help you get happy. This video is a fun example that explains what is going on:

And if you are feeling really wild and crazy maybe you will actually start laughing, which takes the whole idea to a completely new height!

5. Relax

We often forget how important it is to relax, let go, and simply be. Even if for a few moments a day. It can radically change our inner chemistry and really help us to be naturally much happier. A few deep breaths, a minute or 2 with our eyes closed before we go into work, a quick massage, or 10 minutes of exercise can go a long way to helping us relax. There are millions of amazing pieces of information out there on the web, just do it already!
